Literacy - Students picked a topic from our real aloud book "The Tiger Rising" and gathered evidence to have a debate with a partner.
Math - We introduced measurements conversions and began creating our interactive math notebooks. Students worked on word problems converting feet to yards, inches to feet, etc. This focus will continue next week as we go through the metric system and solve problems related to conversions. Writing - Students finished up their final drafts of our opinion piece, "Is TV good or bad?" If students finish their writing assignment, they are allowed to free-write using a prompt book. We will be starting new writing pieces in our new classroom next week! Science - We continued studying the rock cycle with a focus on metamorphic rocks and how they are formed. Social Studies - We began our unit on New Hampshire with a focus on map skills. We introduced vocabulary words and definitions related to the chapter. MicroSociety - Four new businesses were announced at town meeting. Students whose businesses were not accepted in the first round will be able to work as managers or employees at open businesses, or run for government positions. Our Constitution was ratified and our class elected our Representative, Vedanth Penumatsa. Caleb Leblanc won a citizenship award for his efforts in group cooperation. We finished the week with a lesson about cottage industry's vs. factories. The students were put to work!
