Tuesday and Wednesday were Microsociety-focused days at the church. Students prepared campaign speeches, created posters and buttons, and our first election took place. We ratified our school Constitution, and students were sworn in as citizens of Microsociety. I am happy to say that 8 fourth graders took part in running for President or Vice President, and am even happier to announce our own fourth grader, Caleb Leblanc, was chosen as Microsociety's first Vice President! Way to go, Caleb!
Literacy - Students finished gathering evidence and debated their partners opinion related to a topic from our read aloud book "The Tiger Rising." Math - We continued studying conversion charts and worked through word problems related to conversions. We spent time putting more information into our interactive math notebooks, and students were tasked with writing their own conversion-related math word problems. Word problems continue to be a challenge, so we will be sure to spend extra time focusing on decoding them. Writing - Students handed in their final drafts of our first 3 writing pieces to add to their portfolio. We began a new October-themed writing piece based on a "show, don't tell" writing strategy. We will continue this throughout next week. Science - We continued studying the rock cycle with a focus on sedimentary rocks and how they are formed. We will look to finish the rock cycle next week. Social Studies - We continued our focus on map skills, and using latitude and longitude coordinates to locate states on a map. We finished our vocabulary words and definitions related to the chapter.
