Literacy - We completed our group novel study for Sadako and the Thousand Paper Cranes. We discussed Japanese culture and the good luck charms of paper cranes. Students then followed a 25 step instruction to fold their own paper cranes. Check our class photo's page to see the finished products! We began our new read aloud, The Library Card, by author Jerry Spinelli. Students have been making text-to-text connections between this novel and our previous Spinelli novel, Maniac Magee.
Math - We continued Unit 4 with a focus on partitioned rectangles and partials products for multiplication. We learned a new math game to practice these multiplication strategies. We also continued practice conversions using the metric system for liquid and weight measurements. Writing - We began a new writing unit on opinionated pieces. Students were first tasked with a short opinion piece based off the prompt "What is my favorite holiday?" We set up online log-ins for the grammar-focused website www.noredink.com. We will take some time to explore this website next week. Science - We continued our new chapter on magnetism. We will look to continue exploring these mysterious forces in the coming weeks! Microsociety - March will be the final month for our current businesses. Students continue to work and shop! See the class photo's page for more. *We introduced our "burning questions" in which one student per week will pose any question with which they are curious about. The class will have the week to find the answer and discuss. Our first question took us down the path of ancestry. Ask your child about it!
