Literacy - We continued our read aloud, The Library Card, stopping to make predictions and text-to text connections. Reading assessments were done and all students got to spend some time on our reading program Lexia in the computer lab.
Math - We continued Unit 4 with a focus on partial products for multiplication. All 4th graders took a progress monitoring math assessment, and I was happy to see many students with growth! We have been working hard in the computer lab on our math drills and focusing our attention on 4th grade Khan Academy topics. Writing - We continued a new writing unit on opinionated pieces. We began a new activity called "pop-up writing!" Students are given an opion writing prompt and have 15 minutes to make their case as to why they think their opinion is correct. We did a few writing activities with a focus on sequencing, punctuation, and spelling. Science - We continued our new chapter on magnetism. We learned about motors, generators, and electromagnetism. I set up an electromagnet with a switch at the front of the room and we got to witness an ordinary nail become magnetic through the power of electricity! We also did an experiment to visualize the magnetic fields of some common experiment magnets. Check our class photo's page for more! Microsociety - March will be the final month for our current businesses. Students continue to work and shop! See the class photo's page for more. *We continued our "burning questions" activity in which one student per week poses any question with which they are curious. The class will have the week to find the answer and discuss. Our second question solved the mystery of a confusing computer game title. Ask your child about it!
