Literacy - We began a new read aloud book, 4th Grade Rats, and started our reading groups. Each group is assigned a different novel to study. Students spend time doing independent reading (15-20 mins) while following along in their specific novel study packet. We met to discuss how the books were coming along, as well as review the study packet questions to ensure adequate comprehension.
Math - We began our next unit on fractions. We began by exploring equivalent fractions. We worked in our interactive math notebooks, cut out fraction manipulative pieces, and partner-worked to complete some formative assessments. Next week we will begin organizing fractions on a number line. Writing - We began our cumulative writing piece for our Narrative writing unit. Students have been learning various strategies throughout the unit to add new elements to their stories. We reviewed our rubric and expectations for our stories and many are off to a great start. Science - We began our new unit on electricity! Students were a buzz about our first science experiment dealing with static electricity. We will move onto circuits next week, with more experiments to come. Check out our class photos page for more! Microsociety - Ventures and Marketplace are still on break while some students change jobs and businesses are using this time to learn from previous operations to enhance their business going forward. Mission statements and goals were created, and each venture hired a financial manager. ** Students began Health class this week. Health will run for 8 weeks and take place every Friday.
