Literacy - We continued our group novel study for Sadako and the Thousand Paper Cranes. Our novel is complete, with a few days work of comprehension study for next week. Students were also challenged to read 300 chapters (4th grade's goal) for Dr. Seuss' Read Across America week. I am happy to report we reached our goal!
Math - We began Unit 4 with product extensions (by 10 and 100) and spent some time practicing our daily math drills using XtraMath website in the computer lab. We also set up Khan Academy log-ins and all students have begun their Academy "mission." Both XtraMath and Khan Academy are great resources to reinforce math (or other subject) concepts at home. Student's know their log-ins, but feel free to email me if you would like a copy of their log-in information for them to practice at home. Writing - We finished our grammar unit with a focus on adjectives. We continued typing instruction in the computer lab. We will return to writing pieces at the beginning of next week with a focus on opinion pieces. Science - We began our new chapter on magnetism. Students were hands-on testing magnetic forces throughout the classroom (and took magnets home to test further items). More experiments with magnets to come next week. Microsociety - March will be the final month for our current businesses. There will be a meeting next week for all students who are interested in starting new ventures or want to run for a government position. Stay tuned! ** Health class is suspended until the return of our nurse from maternity leave.
