Literacy - Students worked on their independent book reports as well as their movie posters for our read aloud book, Maniac Magee. The posters came out great! Check out our class photo's to see some examples...
Math - We continue doing daily multiplication drills to try help remember our math facts. We began classifying quadrilateral shapes by lines and angles. We worked in our interactive notebooks and paired up to play Polygon Capture to reinforce quadrilateral classification rules. Writing - We continue to work on writing mechanics, as well as replacement words to use less "boring" words when we write. Students practiced using dialogue with a variety of interesting word choices. Science - We finished our unit "Living Things Need Each Other" with a focus on ecosystems and adaptations. Students were tested on Friday, and then got to enjoy an episode of the television series, Cosmos. Cosmos is a highly engaging science program that covers a variety of subjects. This episode focused on mutations and adaptations which aligned nicely with our science unit. Social Studies - We finished our chapter on Native Americans in the New Hampshire area. Students will be reviewing the chapter together to complete a study guide and will be tested at the end of next week. Microsociety - Ventures continued as students all reported to work. With the bank, post office, and marketplace open, students are practicing their real world skills in our Microsociety setting. Marketplace will be put on hold next week, in order for teachers and venture facilitators to better organize our working crew to ensure a successful marketplace going forward. Next week in Microsociety, all students will stay in their classrooms and focus on financial literacy (completing bank account set up, check writing practice, and balancing their account ledgers.
