Literacy - We shared our Maniac Magee movie posters, watched the Maniac Magee movie and completed book vs. movie comparisons. We took a step back from novel studies and read All About Sam by Lois Lowry as our class read aloud. Students made text-to-text and text-to-self connections. Students also handed in their Reading Response book reports for their independent reading books.
Math - We continue doing daily multiplication drills to try help remember our math facts. We finished Unit 2 and students completed their assessments which included arrays, factors, multiples, area, perimeter, time conversions, multiplicative comparisons, identifying quadrilaterals and triangles, symmetry and "What's My Rule?" tables. We will begin Unit 3 on Fractions and Decimals when we return from break. Writing - We continued to work on writing mechanics, with a focus on point of view, using different leads (introductions) and conclusions, hooking the reader, using proper transitions, detailing setting, and following a "show, don't tell" rule of writing. Students will take what they've learned during this Narrative Writing Unit and prepare a final writing piece before we transition to our next Unit. Science - We previewed our next Unit on electricity with an episode of Magic School Bus and Bill Nye the Science Guy. We had discussions about using and conserving energy. We will look to dive into our electricity unit with some hands-on experiments when we return from break! Social Studies - We reviewed our Native Americans in NH chapter and prepared for our chapter quiz. Students completed their quizzes and we will be starting our next chapter after break. Microsociety - Ventures and Marketplace took a week off to self-reflect on how businesses were running, as well as what could be improved. Ventures will take this time to reorganize, students will be able to transition from one job to another (if preferred), and the marketplace will reopen soon!
